Yoon Ga-eun's 'Master of the World' Invited to Toronto Film Festival Competition Section
Distributor Barunson E&A announced on July 23, 2025, that director Yoon Ga-eun's new film Master of the World has been officially invited to the Platform section, the competitive section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.
Master of the World tells the story of an 18-year-old high school girl named Joo-in, whose impulsive remark causes the world around her to begin to shake. Director Yoon, who delicately captured the inner lives of adolescents in her previous works The World of Us (2016) and The House of Us (2019), explores the cracks in identity and relationships in her latest film.
The Platform section, established in 2015, is the only official competition section of the Toronto International Film Festival. This section focuses on works with strong artistic quality and a distinct directorial vision, selecting about 10 films each year.
Giovanna Fulvi, chief programmer of the Toronto International Film Festival, stated, "Director Yoon captures the growing pains of adolescence with sensitivity and deeply portrays the journey of individuals finding resilience and agency within intimate family relationships. We are delighted to present such a creative director's new work for the first time in the Platform section."
