Following Last Year's 43 Tons Export, This Year Targets 50 Tons and 600 Million Won
Strengthening Global Competitiveness of Local Agricultural Products
The representative summer fruit of Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, the "peach," has officially begun its export season, once again demonstrating the global competitiveness of local agricultural products.
On July 23, the city of Yeongju visited Woorim Agricultural Cooperative Corporation (CEO Park Kyungsoo), where the first export shipment was being sorted, to inspect the export preparation process and express its commitment to cooperating for the expansion of overseas markets for Yeongju peaches.
This shipment consists of six pallets (2,100 kg) and is scheduled to be exported to three Southeast Asian countries: Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Starting with this shipment, the city plans to gradually expand both the number of export destinations and the export volume through the third quarter.
Last year, Yeongju exported 43 tons of peaches to a total of eight countries?Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Guam?achieving approximately 480 million won in export revenue. This year, the city aims to increase its export performance to 50 tons and 600 million won, surpassing last year's figures.
Kang Maeyoung, head of the Distribution Support Division, stated, "With this shipment, we will further solidify the export foundation for Sunheung peaches and strengthen the status of Yeongju peaches in the summer market by diversifying export destinations. We will also do our utmost to support exports in order to increase farmers' incomes."
