On July 21, Yeongam County announced that it held a party-government consultation meeting in the county office situation room with Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Seo Samseok and officials from the Jeonnam Provincial Party, where they discussed major regional projects totaling 2.21052 trillion won.
The purpose of the meeting was to request the attention and support of the government and the ruling party for large-scale policy initiatives, focusing on regional pledges of the Lee Jaemyung administration and projects proposed for national funding.
The meeting mainly discussed four large-scale projects in new growth industries and cultural infrastructure that are part of the Lee Jaemyung administration's regional pledges: the Energy Local Production and Consumption Green City 100 Project, the construction of the Yeongam National Baduk Training Center, and two other initiatives.
In particular, the Green City 100 Project is a core strategic initiative that Yeongam County has been preparing for a long time, comprising the creation of a renewable energy hub, a specialized cluster for offshore wind power equipment, and the development of an energy self-sufficient smart green city. The county requested that the party and government concentrate their efforts to ensure these projects are included in the new administration's national agenda.
In addition, four projects were discussed as proposals for national funding: the construction of a safety experience education center, the establishment of a new interchange on the Namhae Expressway, and the renovation of the sustainable agricultural production base, among others. As for local issues, four tasks tailored to regional characteristics were presented: a pilot project for basic rural income, improvement and legal revision for the aging Daebul Industrial Complex, joint inter-Korean UNESCO intangible heritage registration for Gayageum Sanjo, and the renovation of shared tourism assets.
County Governor Woo Seunghee stated, "Policy cooperation with the central government and national funding are urgently needed to foster new growth industries and expand agricultural, tourism, and cultural resources to create future sources of income for the region," adding, "We will make every effort to secure funding from policy design to execution."
In response, lawmaker Seo Samseok replied, "I will work with the central party to seek support measures so that the region's strategic projects can be reflected in national plans."
Meanwhile, Yeongam County plans to use this meeting as a starting point to fully embark on follow-up administrative procedures to secure feasibility and budget allocation for 12 major projects.
