Regulatory Free Zone Committee Convenes: Follow-up Measures for Special Exemptions Approved
Temporary Permits Granted for Gyeongbuk Smart Green Logistics Zone and Others
On July 22, the government announced that it had held the 16th Regulatory Free Zone Committee meeting in writing, during which it reviewed and resolved follow-up measures for regulatory free zone exemptions, as well as important changes to previously designated zones.
The regulatory free zone system is designed to foster promising innovative and strategic new businesses in local regions. After consultations with the relevant regulatory ministries, this system grants regulatory exemptions for a certain period in specific regions, making it possible to demonstrate new technologies and new industries.
As a follow-up measure from this committee meeting, the government lifted the designation of the Jeonbuk Eco-friendly Vehicle Zone (two demonstration projects), where regulations were improved early based on demonstration projects within the zone. Additionally, one temporary permit project in the Chungnam Hydrogen Energy Transition Zone was terminated. These actions are expected to facilitate the commercialization and full-scale market entry of new eco-friendly energy technologies and products.
Furthermore, in two zones?Gyeongbuk Smart Green Logistics Zone (two demonstration projects) and Chungbuk Green Hydrogen Industry Zone (two demonstration projects)?safety verification has been completed, and regulatory improvements will be actively pursued through temporary permits.
