Goyang Selected for 2026 High-Precision Electronic Map Construction Project
Leading Smart Cities with a Sustainable Spatial Information Update System
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on July 22 that it has been selected for the "2026 High-Precision Electronic Map Construction Project," organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (National Geographic Information Institute), securing 660 million won in national funding.
The high-precision electronic map construction project is a national competition aimed at producing and utilizing high-precision spatial information to build the foundation for future cities, such as digital twins, smart cities, and autonomous driving.
Goyang Special City previously carried out this project successfully in 2024. During the process, the city established high-precision spatial data, including 1:1000 digital topographic maps, drone imagery, LiDAR, digital elevation models, and 3D building data. By developing smart administrative services linked to these datasets, Goyang has become a leading benchmarking destination for smart cities, attracting continuous visits from across the country.
The 2026 project, for which the city was recently selected, aims to incorporate updated urban information based on existing data, enhance and update the quality of spatial information, and expand smart city infrastructure. The city expects these efforts to improve operational efficiency in various administrative services, including urban planning, transportation, and disaster response.
