Gwangju Seo District Council Volunteers in Flood-Damaged Areas
Recovery Work Including Removal of Mud and Collection of Waste
The Seo District Council of Gwangju (Chairperson Jeon Seungil) visited local areas within its jurisdiction that suffered significant damage due to heavy rainfall on the 21st and carried out volunteer activities.
According to the Seo District Council, this volunteer effort was organized to share in the pain of residents whose homes and roads were flooded and whose livelihoods were severely affected by the unexpected downpour, and to support a swift return to daily life.

View original imageOn this day, council members and staff from the council secretariat voluntarily participated in recovery work in areas such as Nongseong-dong, Seochang-dong, and Yudeok-dong, helping to sort water-damaged household items, remove mud and debris, collect waste, and maintain drainage systems.
In particular, the council members who visited the affected sites spoke directly with residents to listen to their difficulties and explored ways to coordinate with the district office and related agencies to ensure that necessary assistance could be provided promptly.
Chairperson Jeon Seungil stated, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the residents who are experiencing great difficulties in their daily lives due to the unexpected heavy rain," adding, "Everyone must have been shocked and distressed by this sudden disaster, but all the council members participated with one heart, hoping that even a small gesture of warmth would bring comfort."
He continued, "The Seo District Council will continue to focus on field-oriented legislative activities together with district residents and will do its utmost to ensure Seo District remains safe from disasters."
Meanwhile, in addition to this volunteer work, the Seo District Council plans to actively conduct a comprehensive assessment of the affected areas and to prepare a wide range of countermeasures, including strengthening facilities to prevent future flood damage, inspecting drainage systems, and revising relevant ordinances.
