Obesity Prevention and Water Safety, Hands-On Education
Free Program for 240 Participants Starting August 4
The Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the National Health Insurance Service (headed by Cho Junhee) will operate the 'Dolphin Swimming Class with the National Health Insurance Service' for elementary school students in Changwon City, utilizing the summer vacation period starting from August 4.
The 'Dolphin Swimming Class' is an experiential health promotion program designed to help prevent various health risk factors such as insufficient physical activity among youth, obesity, poor eating habits, and water safety accidents during the summer, while also fostering healthy habits. This program will be offered to approximately 240 elementary school students in the Gyeongnam region.
According to Statistics Korea in 2022, drowning accidents ranked as the third leading cause of death among youth safety accidents, highlighting the importance of survival swimming education. In response, the Dolphin Swimming Class is structured to not only enhance water safety skills but also to promote obesity prevention and provide education on nutritional balance, with the overall goal of improving health in a practical manner.
Applications can be submitted through the Changwon Facilities Corporation website. The program will be held from August 4 to 29 at the Changwon Neulpureunjeondang Swimming Pool, operating five days a week (Monday to Friday), one hour per day, and divided into a total of eight classes. All participation fees will be fully covered by the National Health Insurance Service.
Cho Junhee, head of the regional headquarters, stated, "The health of our youth is directly linked to the future of our society," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that through the swimming class, children not only engage in healthy physical activity but also develop the ability to protect their lives in emergency situations."
