"Resilient Against Heavy Rain"... Yeongdeungpo District Begins Construction of Yeongdeungpo and Singil-dong Rainwater Pump Stations
Expansion of Rainwater Pump Stations Targeted for Completion by 2028
Strengthening Flood Response Infrastructure Across Yeongdeungpo
On July 21, Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hogwon) announced that it will officially begin construction on the "Yeongdeungpo-dong and Singil-dong Rainwater Pump Station Construction and Expansion Project" to proactively respond to heavy rainfall and minimize flood damage in low-lying areas.

View original imageThis project is a comprehensive drainage improvement measure aimed at resolving the chronic flooding problems in the Yeongdeungpo-dong and Singil-dong areas. The goal is to establish a stable drainage system capable of handling heavy rainfall of up to 100 mm per hour.
In Yeongdeungpo-dong, a new rainwater pump station will be constructed near the site of the dismantled Yeongdeungpo Rotary overpass (94-32, Yeongdeungpo-dong 2-ga). In Singil-dong, the existing rainwater pump station's retention basin will be expanded to increase its storage capacity.
The dismantling of the Yeongdeungpo Rotary overpass was completed in four months, two months ahead of schedule, which has enabled smooth progress on the construction of the new Yeongdeungpo-dong pump station nearby.
Since signing the construction contract in February, the district has completed the necessary administrative procedures for groundbreaking and relocated the "Green Office" within the new site to the upper part of the Yangpyeong retention basin to secure construction space. Full-scale construction will begin this month.
The newly built Yeongdeungpo-dong rainwater pump station will be capable of discharging 1,050 tons of water per minute and storing up to 7,000 tons of water. Additionally, a rainwater inflow pipeline will be installed beneath the Yeongdeungpo Rotary section to facilitate smooth drainage.
Alongside this, the Singil-dong rainwater pump station will expand its retention basin, increasing its storage capacity from 10,000 cubic meters to 13,800 cubic meters. This is expected to effectively block rainwater from flowing into low-lying areas during heavy rainfall.
The district aims to complete this drainage improvement project by 2028 and plans to sequentially carry out the construction of new separate sewer pipelines and the expansion and improvement of existing pipelines.
In addition, the district is promoting various flood prevention measures throughout Yeongdeungpo, including the expansion and drainage improvement project for the Daerim 2-dong rainwater pump station, the installation of a deep rainwater drainage tunnel in the Dorimcheon area, and the underground space complex development at Mullae Neighborhood Park.
