View original imageOn March 19, a torrential downpour of up to 100 mm per hour struck Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, which had experienced a major wildfire in March, causing a landslide and resulting in casualties.
According to Sancheong-gun officials, on July 19, landslide debris triggered by the heavy rain in Buri Village, Sancheong-eup, Sancheong-gun, buried two houses, leaving two people in their 70s and one person in their 20s missing.
In Naeri Village, Sancheong-eup, a man in his 40s was found in cardiac arrest after being buried by landslide debris and was later confirmed dead.
The National Fire Agency issued a nationwide fire mobilization order at 1 p.m. on July 19, and Sancheong-gun, for the first time ever, ordered the evacuation of all residents in the county.
Fire authorities are currently continuing search and rescue operations for the missing individuals buried by the landslide.
