Presidential Security Service:
"Respecting the Disciplinary Committee's Decision...
Proceeding with Necessary Procedures Going Forward"
The Presidential Security Service announced on July 17 that it had decided to dismiss former Deputy Chief Kim Sunghoon on charges including abuse of authority, following allegations that he obstructed the execution of an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
The Security Service held a high-level disciplinary committee meeting on July 15 and reached this decision unanimously among all committee members. The agency explained, "Criminal charges related to Kim, such as obstruction of special official duties, were not included in the disciplinary action, as investigations by law enforcement agencies are still ongoing."
The Security Service added, "We respect the decision of the disciplinary committee and will proceed with the necessary procedures going forward. We will do our utmost to restore public trust as a national professional security agency through continuous organizational reform."
