Heavy rainfall has been recorded throughout various parts of Sejong City, and the number of confirmed flooded areas continues to increase.
In Jeondong-myeon, significant rainfall has caused widespread flooding. Local residents have stated that they "suffer greatly every year due to recurring flood damage," and have called for the urgent installation of a drainage pumping station in Nojang-ri, which is a habitual flood zone.
Nojang-ri is the central area of Jeondong-myeon, where the township office, community center, commercial establishments, and residential neighborhoods are concentrated. Due to its geographical features, heavy rain causes rainwater to rapidly flow into the low-lying area, exceeding the capacity of the sewage system. As a result, the roads and residential neighborhoods have repeatedly experienced flooding.
In recent years, climate change has led to frequent localized heavy rain, making the flood damage even more severe. Residents say that their daily lives, and even their livelihoods, are under threat. Since similar-sized drainage pumping stations have already been installed in nearby areas, significantly alleviating flooding issues there, residents insist that Nojang-ri must also secure the necessary budget and promptly proceed with the installation.
Hwang Soondeok, the chairman of the Sejong City Council and a resident of Jeondong-myeon, stressed, "We must quickly resolve the anxiety of residents who have to live in fear every time it rains," and added, "The installation of a drainage pumping station is not just a simple civil complaint, but the top priority for protecting the safety and lives of residents."
