Nonsan City has been pursuing the construction of a public postpartum care center as a key pledge project of the 8th popularly elected administration, aiming to improve the childbirth environment and address the issue of population decline. In 2022, the project was selected for the Local Extinction Response Fund competition.
The city conducted a public recruitment process for the operating agency, evaluating expertise, project execution capability, and safety management plans from multiple perspectives. Baekje General Hospital, which received the highest evaluation, was ultimately selected as the operating institution.
The public postpartum care center will begin full-scale preparations for operation, including facility construction and staff recruitment, with the goal of opening in November this year.
Mayor Baek Sung-hyun stated, "The public postpartum care center is a key link in Nonsan's population policy, which connects childbirth with childcare, care, education, and culture. We will complete a comprehensive infrastructure for childbirth and care so that no one leaves Nonsan because of childbirth."
