View original imageOn July 15, BISTEP held a preliminary meeting in its main conference room to launch the "Busan Science and Technology Policy Forum" (Busan Science and Technology Colloquium), initiating efforts to build a foundation for solidarity and collaboration among science and technology professionals.
This meeting was organized to clarify the identity of the policy forum and to discuss concrete plans for its sustainable operation. Key figures from the local science and technology community attended and lent their support, including Jin Seongho, President of the Busan-Ulsan Branch of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies; Kang Sinwon, former President of the Busan Association of Scientists and Engineers; Kang Chunjin, Executive Director of the Busan Science and Technology Council; Oh Hyunjoo, Head of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Association of Women Scientists and Engineers; and Wang Jaephil, Southeast Regional Representative of the Citizens' Coalition for a Right Science and Technology Society (Gwasilyeon).
The "Busan Science and Technology Policy Forum," organized by BISTEP, aims to address local issues and develop strategies for regional growth based on science and technology. Starting with its first regular forum, the "Busan Science and Technology Colloquium for a Global Ocean Hub City," scheduled for August 11, the forum will be held quarterly on a regular basis.
Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, stated, "This forum will serve as a platform to gather the collective intelligence of Busan's science and technology sector and jointly design a sustainable future for the region's industries," adding, "BISTEP will play a central role so that science and technology professionals can become the driving force for local innovation."
