Jeonnam Council Member Jo Okhyun: "Reading Will Enrich Residents' Lives and Culture"
Partial Amendment to the "Jeollanam-do Ordinance on the Promotion of Reading Culture" Passes Review
The partial amendment to the "Jeollanam-do Ordinance on the Promotion of Reading Culture," proposed by Jo Okhyun, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Mokpo 2), passed the review of the Economic, Tourism, and Culture Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council on July 15.
This amendment focuses on systematizing support for residents' reading activities, strengthening the capabilities of professional library staff, and establishing a practical support system for those marginalized from reading activities.
The amended ordinance includes provisions for refining the details of reading culture promotion projects, establishing the basis for supporting reading clubs and marginalized readers, and introducing new provisions for education and training to enhance the job competencies of library staff. The amended ordinance is expected to be finalized at the plenary session on July 28 after review by the standing committee.
Jo stated, "Reading not only enriches individual lives but also lays the cultural foundation of the community," adding, "I hope this ordinance revision will lead to a broader and more balanced spread of reading culture in Jeonnam."
