KT Skylife and HCN Now Offer Genie TV-Like Services with Launch of Cost-Effective Products
Providing Services Based on IP Transmission Method
Set-top Box Replacement When Applying for ipit TV
KT announced on July 16 that it will strengthen its service competitiveness through media platform technology cooperation with KT Skylife and KT HCN.
KT, based on technological neutrality in the pay-TV sector, is breaking down the barriers between transmission methods for Internet Protocol TV (IPTV), satellite broadcasting, and cable TV. The company will supply advanced set-top boxes based on IP transmission technology to KT Skylife, a satellite broadcaster, and KT HCN, a cable TV operator.
The technological neutrality stipulated in the Broadcasting Act refers to a system that allows pay-TV operators to provide services using the transmission methods of other broadcasters after reporting a converged service.
Through this cooperation, KT Skylife and KT HCN have strengthened their service competitiveness by providing high-quality broadcasting services at reasonable prices. In addition, based on the transition to IP-based technology, they plan to expand their business areas and create opportunities for sustainable growth in the satellite broadcasting and cable TV industries.
Recently, KT Skylife and KT HCN each launched a new premium broadcasting service called ipit TV, which utilizes IP transmission technology. A key feature of ipit TV is that it provides services equivalent to IPTV at a cost-effective price. It offers high-quality media services such as OTT content from Genie TV, AI-based recommendations and search, mobile continuation, and an intuitive UI/UX.
The size and weight of the set-top box have been reduced, standby power consumption has been significantly lowered, and booting and channel switching speeds have also been improved. Customers of KT Skylife and KT HCN can apply for ipit TV at each company's customer center or store, and have their set-top box replaced to enjoy IPTV-level services.
