Gwangju Employers Federation to Host Friday Forum with Opera Singer Kim Dongkyu on July 18
The Gwangju Employers Federation announced on July 15 that it will host a special lecture for the 1,692nd Friday Breakfast Forum on July 18, inviting opera singer Kim Dongkyu, a leading performer at Italy's La Scala Theater, under the theme "Do You Know This Scene!".
Kim Dongkyu is currently a distinguished professor at Sangmyung University. He majored in vocal music at Yonsei University and the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, Italy. He has won first place at the Jungang Music Competition, the Naples Salerno Vocal Competition, and the Verdi International Vocal Competition. He has also received the Today's Young Artist Award and the Korea Broadcasting Awards Vocalist Prize. His signature song is "On a Wonderful Day in October," and he has appeared on numerous television programs including MBC's Dancing with the Stars, KBS's Open Concert, TV Carries Love, 1 vs 100, and SBS's Burning Youth.
This lecture will cover topics such as vocal competitions, the Naples Salerno Vocal Competition, the Verdi International Vocal Competition, the Today's Young Artist Award, the Korea Broadcasting Awards, the Opera Grand Prize for Best Male Lead, albums, and stories about opera in broadcasting, film, and radio.
Yang Jinseok, president of the Gwangju Employers Federation, stated, "Baritone Kim Dongkyu is a vocalist who won first place at the 31st Verdi International Competition, a prestigious vocal competition, in 1991. He has been very active in Europe, and as a singer, he has regularly appeared on popular music programs such as Open Concert, making him well known to the general public.
