KMA and Training Hospitals Discuss Measures for Resident Reinstatement
"Efforts to Ensure Continuity of Training Upon Return"
The Korean Medical Association (KMA) announced on July 15 that it had discussed measures for the reinstatement of resident doctors who had resigned, in collaboration with the Korean Association of Training Hospitals.
The two sides held a meeting the previous day at the KMA headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and agreed that the situation is complex, with various issues such as the quotas of each training hospital and the board certification exams intertwined. They also agreed to work together to ensure the continuity of resident training.
The KMA plans to arrange a meeting so that the Korean Association of Training Hospitals and the Korean Intern Resident Association (KIRA), which represents the residents, can engage in substantive discussions.
Recently, the residents who had resigned have been accelerating discussions about returning to work, mainly through KIRA. KIRA is scheduled to hold an extraordinary general assembly of delegates on July 19 to finalize specific demands related to their return.
