National Institute for Korean Medicine Development Achieves Grade A in Health Ministry Management Evaluation for Five Consecutive Years
Outstanding Performance in Management, Policy Leadership, Industry Development, and International Cooperation
The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the highest grade, Grade A, in the 2024 management performance evaluation conducted for 23 other public institutions under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. With this, the institute has been selected as an excellent institution for five consecutive years.
This achievement is particularly significant as it was accomplished just six years after the institute’s establishment.
In this evaluation, the institute received consistently outstanding marks across both the management and core business sectors, further solidifying its status as the leading institution in Korean medicine.
In the management sector, the institute was recognized for its commitment to responsible management and emergency management systems during leadership transitions, its pioneering implementation of internal control systems and anti-corruption efforts, as well as its proactive activities to create customized jobs and expand socially responsible recruitment. These efforts were acknowledged as contributing to the realization of social value.
In the core business sector, the institute was commended for its achievements in discovering Korean medicine medical technologies and supporting clinical research through research and development (R&D), establishing a Korean medicine information system based on digital transformation, and enhancing industrial competitiveness by strengthening quality control and safety of herbal medicines.
Notably, the institute’s policy activities drew attention. The establishment of regional plans for Korean medicine and health care projects were highlighted as exemplary cases of proactively responding to changes in the policy environment through strengthened collaboration with local governments. The institute was also highly praised for its accomplishments in expanding its international presence, such as the re-designation as a WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine and attracting international conferences to raise global awareness and expand the role of Korean medicine.
