Jang Donghyuk: "Will We Just Keep Apologizing... Severing Ties with the President Is Self-Destruction, Not Innovation"
"Approval Rating Plummets to 19%, Stop Internal Strife and Restore Party Identity"
...Criticism of Yoon Heesook's Innovation Proposal
Jang Donghyuk, member of the People Power Party, criticized Innovation Committee Chairperson Yoon Heesook's proposal for a "complete break with President Yoon Sukyeol" on July 11.
On his social media that day, Jang stated, "How long are we going to keep apologizing?" He continued, "Now is the time to reestablish the party's identity," and pointed out, "Everyone who takes a seat only keeps repeating apologies." He further criticized, "Our party leader declared that he 'confessed to insurrection,' and even with 108 seats, we failed to prevent the impeachment."
He went on to say, "We have already effectively expelled an impeached president from the party, and even when a special prosecutor forcibly re-arrested a former president, we said nothing," questioning, "Is there really anything left for us to sever ties with?"
He added, "Other parties protect former presidents facing criminal allegations, but in our party, even a minor injury leads to internal strife first," and stressed, "We need to fix the bad habits within our party first."
He particularly emphasized, "The party that received 41% in the presidential election has now fallen to 19%," and argued, "If we want innovation, we must first examine the fundamental causes of our declining approval ratings."
Previously, at a press conference on July 10, Innovation Committee Chairperson Yoon Heesook stated, "We will take the first step toward reflection and innovation by admitting our mistakes before the public and party members," and announced, "We will stipulate a break from the wrongful past in the party constitution."
