National Pukyong University, Busan Technopark, and BISTEP Launch 'Unitech Wave Project' to Jointly Foster Busan's Future Industries
Surfing Zone, Marine Logistics Monitoring, Environmental Disaster Early Warning, and Eco-Friendly Power Machinery Initiatives Promoted
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon), Busan Technopark (President Kim Hyungkyun), and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) held the 'Unitech Wave Project' Campus Policy Meetup at the Pukyong Convention Hall at 10 a.m. on July 11, 2025.
The event brought together President Bae Sanghoon, President Kim Hyungkyun, President Kim Youngbu, and representatives from each institution involved in research and development and industry-academia cooperation, to officially launch the project and discuss strategies for its implementation.
The 'Unitech Wave Project' is a joint cooperation model among the three institutions, aimed at discovering outstanding university technologies, jointly planning research and development (R&D) projects, and securing government and local R&D projects based on these efforts to expand their impact. The three institutions, which lead Busan's cooperation among government, industry, academia, and research sectors, aim to foster future growth engines for Busan and build a sustainable regional development and industrial ecosystem.
To achieve this, National Pukyong University will focus on identifying and discovering R&D planning projects through its Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. Busan Technopark will match technologies to specific projects and identify potential corporate partners, while BISTEP will provide project consulting and secure experts.
Since April 2025, National Pukyong University has identified a total of 18 planning projects in the fields of marine and fisheries and advanced industries, completed matching for 10 projects with Busan Technopark, and presented these cases at the event.
The matched projects include: the 'Study on Activating Busan Surfing Zone Using Artificial Structures' aimed at preventing coastal erosion and marine disasters and developing a complex leisure town; the 'AI-Based Marine Logistics Early Warning Monitoring System' to address marine logistics issues in line with global trends; the 'Smart Bioreaction Sensor-Based Environmental Disaster Early Warning System Construction and Demonstration Project in the Busan Area' for environmental disaster prevention; and the 'Eco-Friendly Power Machinery Element Parts and Materials Reliability Enhancement Technology-Based Project' to advance power machinery components.
President Bae Sanghoon stated, "Through this cooperation model, which is creating a sustainable regional innovation ecosystem, we expect to achieve tangible results that will contribute to future industries and the local community."
