"Expecting the Space to Strengthen Community Bonds Among Residents"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on July 9 that it has begun renovation work on the 'Gwanggyo Supsokmaeul Shelter' in the 1171 area of Sanghyeon-dong, Suji-gu, to transform it into a space that can be used not only for residents' relaxation but also for performances and festivals.

This renovation project was initiated in response to residents' requests made during a meeting with Mayor Lee Sangil last year, where they asked for the space to be developed to accommodate festivals, performances, and flea markets. After visiting the site, Mayor Lee instructed city officials to discuss the land ownership and space development issues with Korea Water Resources Corporation, the landowner.
The city received permission for free use of two plots of water supply land, 1171 and 1150 in Sanghyeon-dong, through negotiations with Korea Water Resources Corporation, enabling the commencement of the renovation work.
The city plans to invest 200 million won of municipal funds to pave the site with soil concrete, install rest facilities, and create a lawn yard and garden, so that the area can serve as a shelter on regular days and as a venue for performances or local events when needed. The city aims to complete the construction by next month.
