KENTECH Hosts Bitgaram Energy Valley AI and Information Security "Workshop"
The Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) announced on July 8 that it had hosted the "Bitgaram Energy Valley AI and Information Security Workshop."
The workshop, held that day at the KENTECH International Conference Hall, was organized by KENTECH researchers to discuss ways to enhance the stability, reliability, and sustainability of energy infrastructure through the convergence of AI and information security technologies. The event was co-organized by the KENTECH Energy AI Research Institute, the Alchemist Project Consortium comprising KENTECH, Yonsei University, and DGIST, as well as the Hanyang University ERICA Data Security and Utilization Innovation Convergence College Project Group.
The workshop consisted of two sessions: "Information Security" and "Artificial Intelligence." The latest research trends and technological issues in the fields of AI and information security were discussed in depth. In the first session, "Information Security," presentations were given on the following topics: AI-based intrusion detection systems (Professor Lee Hyunwoo, KENTECH), post-quantum cryptography (PQC) transition technologies and issues (Professor Seo Seunghyun, Hanyang University ERICA), and execution state-based kernel driver fuzzing techniques (Professor Song Dokyung, Yonsei University).
In the "Artificial Intelligence" session, the following topics were discussed: trends in adversarial attacks on AI (Professor Ahn Sumyeong, KENTECH), the current state of development of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology based on large language models (LLM) (Professor Park Seoyeon, Hanyang University ERICA), and AI lightweighting and optimization methods for embedded systems (Professor Kim Yesung, DGIST).
Professor Lee Hyunwoo of KENTECH, who served as the chair of the organizing committee, emphasized, "To become one of the top three AI powerhouses, it is essential to advance AI with security as a prerequisite, as well as to develop efficient security technologies utilizing AI." He added, "As the world’s only university specializing in energy, KENTECH will use this workshop as an opportunity to further strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration and take the lead in building a sustainable and secure energy infrastructure."
