Seongju-gun's Heedong Song and Sunhee Jeong Receive New Farmer Award: "Committed to Improving Chamoe Quality and Farm Income"
On July 8, the couple Heedong Song (56) and Sunhee Jeong (55) from Chojeon-myeon, Seongju-gun, were honored with the New Farmer of the Month Award.
The couple has shown a deep affection for rural communities and a unique passion for farming. For over 20 years, they have focused on cultivating chamoe, a local specialty, in the Gosan-ri area of Chojeon-myeon. As Saemaul leaders, members of the agricultural cooperative board, and non-executive auditors, they have listened to and represented the voices of local farmers and cooperative members.

View original imageAs president of the Baikona Crop Association Federation and secretary-general of the Seongju Chamoe and Vegetable Research Institute's Chamoe Research Society, they have also taken the lead in research and development for chamoe farming.
In addition, by serving as secretary-general of the Seongju County Association of Rural Leaders, they have made significant contributions to the advancement of local agriculture through their strong sense of duty and volunteer spirit, spreading advanced agricultural technologies and strengthening ties with local farmers.
Heedong Song and Sunhee Jeong stated, "With this New Farmer of the Month Award, we will actively support novice farmers and neighboring farms by sharing our chamoe cultivation techniques and know-how, thereby helping to improve chamoe quality and increase local farm incomes."

The New Farmer of the Month Award is presented by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation to the nation's top leading farmers and livestock producers. Recipients are provided with advanced agricultural training, a trophy, prizes, a nameplate, business cards, and a commemorative stone.
