On July 8, Yeongam County announced that, taking this selection as an opportunity, it will invest a total of 1 billion won by next year to improve the comprehensive guide signs for Dokcheon Nakji Street, refurbish outdoor signboards, and create pocket parks, among other infrastructure improvements.
The county also plans to promote various programs in connection with the street, including a nakji (octopus) cuisine contest, street festivals, and tourism promotion initiatives.
In particular, Yeongam County is currently developing a new gourmet tourism course that links Dokcheon Nakji Street with major local tourist attractions such as Wolchulsan National Park and Wolchulsan Gichan Land.
The county expects that, once the Namdo Food Street is established and the gourmet tourism course is completed, visitors to Yeongam will be able to explore the region's historical and cultural sites as well as its natural scenery, while enjoying local specialties such as Galnaktang, thereby encouraging longer stays.
Kim Dongsik, head of Yeongam County's Tourism Division, stated, "This marks a turning point for Dokcheon Nakji Street to become a premier tourism street that embodies the spirit and flavors of Wolchulsan." He added, "By creating a sustainable tourism ecosystem that combines unique nakji cuisine content, tourism resources, and experiential programs, we aim to invigorate the local economy."
