YGPA Emerges as 'K-MICE Hub' at Yeosu World Expo Exhibition Hall
YGPA Secures Hosting Rights for the 7th Island Day Event at the Yeosu World Expo Exhibition Hall Next August
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (hereinafter YGPA, Acting President Hwang Hakbeom) announced on July 8 that it has secured the hosting rights for the 7th Island Day event, which is scheduled to be held at the Yeosu World Expo Exhibition Hall (hereinafter Exhibition Hall) in August next year.
Island Day has been held annually around August 8 since the inaugural event in 2019, with the aim of raising awareness of the value and importance of islands. The event rotates among cities where islands are located.
The 7th Island Day event in 2026 will bring together island residents and a diverse range of participants, featuring a commemorative ceremony, exhibition and promotion halls, side events, academic conferences, and a variety of other programs.
Through hosting Island Day, YGPA plans to further strengthen the MICE attraction function of the Exhibition Hall and promote its marine tourism content to domestic and international visitors. The authority also aims to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by developing tourism programs linked to the facilities within the Exhibition Hall.
Acting President Hwang Hakbeom stated, "It is very meaningful to host Island Day, a national commemorative event, at the Exhibition Hall," adding, "We will do our utmost to establish the Exhibition Hall as a K-MICE hub by attracting large-scale MICE events such as Island Day."
Meanwhile, YGPA plans to continue its marketing efforts to attract MICE events by cooperating with related organizations, including Jeollanam-do Province and Yeosu City.
