Man in His 50s Arrested in Sancheong for Fatally Stabbing Drinking Companion
A man in his 50s has been arrested in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang Province, after fatally stabbing an acquaintance with a weapon while drinking together.
Sancheong Police announced on July 4 at approximately 9:35 a.m. that they had urgently apprehended a man in his 50s, referred to as A, on suspicion of murder.
According to police, A is suspected of stabbing the right thigh of B, also in his 50s, with a weapon while drinking together on a bench in front of B’s mother's house from the afternoon of July 3 until the morning of July 4, resulting in B’s death.
At around 9:20 a.m. on July 4, police responded to a resident's report and found B dead at the scene, bleeding heavily.
A, who was found sleeping nearby in a heavily intoxicated state, was immediately arrested. Police also recovered the weapon used in the crime during a search of the area.
The two men reportedly became acquainted at an alcohol addiction treatment facility in Daegu.
Investigations revealed that B, who had left the treatment facility to return home, invited A over to drink, during which the incident occurred.
A reportedly stated that he could not remember the incident due to intoxication.
Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A after conducting an autopsy and further investigating the motive for the crime.
