The fire began in the wiring of an air conditioner that was in operation, resulting in damage to part of the living room and causing property losses estimated at approximately 3 million won.
According to the Sejong Fire Headquarters on July 3, a total of 37 air conditioner fires occurred in the region over the past five years (2020?2024). Of these, 27 cases (73.0%) were concentrated in the two-month period starting in July, when the summer heat is at its peak. Most of the fires occurred in apartment complexes (32 cases, 86.5%), and given the high proportion of residents living in such housing, citizens are advised to remain vigilant.
Park Gwangchan, Head of the Response and Prevention Division, stated, "Air conditioner fires during the summer can be fully prevented with public attention," and added, "I hope everyone will have a cool and safe summer by conducting safety inspections of their air conditioners and following safety guidelines."
