More than ten experts with field experience and technical expertise in drone and aviation-related companies, the military, and firefighting have been appointed as members.
At the appointment ceremony, National Assembly member Lim Jongdeuk (People Power Party, Yeongju-Bonghwa-Yeongyang) and Kim Byungki, Chairman of the Yeongju City Council, attended and exchanged opinions with the advisory members on policy direction and development strategies for the drone industry.
In the first half of this year, Yeongju City enacted the 'Ordinance on Fostering and Supporting the Drone Industry' and is accelerating efforts to establish an institutional foundation, including seeking designation as a 'Special Drone Deregulation Zone' under the supervision of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Starting in the second half of the year, the city also plans to actively promote various demonstration projects using drones, including forest monitoring, agricultural pest control, algal bloom surveillance, and delivery services to mountainous areas.
Yoo Junggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju, stated, "We will accelerate the advancement of policies and the implementation of demonstration projects based on the expertise of the drone advisory group," emphasizing, "We will create a sustainable drone industry ecosystem and develop Yeongju into the leading drone city in Korea."
The Special Drone Deregulation Zone is a dedicated demonstration district where regulations such as certification, permits, and reporting are significantly relaxed under the 'Act on Promotion and Foundation of Drone Utilization.' It is regarded as a core foundation for the practical application models being pursued by Yeongju City.
