Seocho-gu Expands Eco-Friendly Cooling Facility ‘Seoripul Siwon’ to 28 Village Bus Stops
Automatic Cooling with Solar Power and Motion Sensors
Seocho-gu in Seoul is expanding the operation of its eco-friendly cooling facility, ‘Seoripul Siwon,’ which has been installed to allow residents waiting for village buses to stay cool during the hot summer months.
‘Seoripul Siwon’ is the nation’s first facility of its kind, a circulator powered by solar energy that is installed above village bus stops to provide cool air during the summer. After being introduced at 13 locations last year, 15 more have been added this year, bringing the total to 28 bus stops now equipped with the system.
In particular, the new installations this year feature an automatic operation system using motion sensors, so the circulator activates automatically when a user approaches the bus stop platform. This is an upgrade from the previous system, which required users to press a button.
Seocho-gu also operates a variety of other facilities at bus stops, including 229 ‘cooling covers’ that are placed over existing heated benches to provide a cooling effect, 62 all-season ‘cooling heated benches’ for both summer and winter use, and the ‘Seoripul Igloo,’ which blocks cold winds during winter.
