According to the Office of Education, the plan is to enhance the accessibility of the 'Chungnam Student Guardian App' and simplify the app launch process so that students can respond quickly in dangerous situations and access the app easily and swiftly.
The Chungnam Student Guardian App, which will be distributed for use among students in the province, can be automatically launched by pressing the side button of a student's mobile phone twice. It can also be activated using the phone's voice recognition service.
The main features of the newly revamped app include, first, an alarm sound (at maximum volume) function. This feature allows students to generate an alarm through the app, quickly alerting those nearby to the dangerous situation and helping the student escape from danger.
Second, the app offers a danger notification text message function, which sends the student's precise Google Maps location via text to up to three pre-registered guardian phone numbers. Third, a fake call feature has been added, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) voice to play a guardian's voice.
The fake call feature delivers a call five seconds after clicking the icon, with three types of voices?female, male, or AI?saying "Where are you?", "What are you doing?", or "Come quickly." Fourth, the app provides a one-touch dialing function for reporting to 117 (school violence reporting hotline) and 112 (crime reporting hotline), so that pressing the respective icons will automatically connect the call for immediate reporting.
To ensure the initial stability of the Chungnam Student Guardian App, the Office of Education plans to first distribute it to elementary schools in the province starting July 7, and then make it available for use at middle schools, high schools, and special schools from July 14.
Details about the Chungnam Student Guardian App will be provided to parents through a letter sent home.
Kim Jicheol, Superintendent of Chungnam Office of Education, stated, "With the distribution of the Chungnam Student Guardian App, students will now be able to request help more quickly and intuitively in the event of a student safety accident or school violence incident," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create an environment where our children can grow up safely by establishing a robust student safety network."
