According to Namgu District Office in Gwangju and other sources on July 2, a joint section of a water supply pipeline at Bangnim Sageori was damaged at 12:30 p.m., resulting in a leak. As a result, one nearby house was flooded. One vehicle parked in the affected area had its wheels submerged and was towed away.
The leak also caused ground subsidence on part of the road, leading to partial traffic control. About 30 Namgu District Office employees and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to clear debris and implement safety measures. Road restoration work is expected to continue until July 3.
The Waterworks Headquarters has begun emergency repairs. Authorities believe the accident was caused by damage to a joint section of the water pipe that was installed three years ago, and plan to investigate the exact cause and the amount of leakage.
