Gyeonggi Province Holds "4th Roundtable Discussion for Establishing Environmental Education Plan"
Gyeonggi Province held the "4th Roundtable Discussion for Establishing the Gyeonggi Province Environmental Education Plan" on July 2 at the main auditorium of the Yongin Forest Education Center.
This roundtable was organized to develop an effective education plan by incorporating the voices of Gyeonggi residents, who are the primary stakeholders of environmental education policies. Over 100 residents attended and freely exchanged opinions on various environmental issues and directions for education.
The "Gyeonggi Province Environmental Education Plan" is a five-year mid- to long-term plan that outlines the direction and implementation strategies for environmental education within the province. The fourth plan aims to establish a systematic educational foundation to address complex environmental challenges, such as the climate crisis and ecosystem collapse.
Prior to this roundtable, Gyeonggi Province conducted a preliminary survey in June among residents to assess their awareness of environmental issues, experiences with environmental education, and policy needs. The results of this survey were shared at the event and served as a basis for participants' discussions.

View original imageThe roundtable began with a presentation on "The Current Status of Gyeonggi Province's Environmental Education and the Direction for the 4th Plan," followed by discussions on topics such as global environmental issues of concern, perceptions of Gyeonggi Province's environment, areas of interest in environmental education, and intentions to participate and expected outcomes.
Participants agreed on the necessity of environmental education but pointed out several challenges, including a lack of effective programs, information gaps between regions, and the need for tailored education for different groups. In particular, there was a shared call to expand differentiated environmental education for youth, the middle-aged, and vulnerable groups.
Gyeonggi Province plans to thoroughly analyze the opinions gathered through the roundtable and the survey and actively incorporate them into the 4th Environmental Education Plan.

Cha Seongsu, Director of Climate, Environment, and Energy at Gyeonggi Province, said, "It was a very meaningful opportunity to reflect the vivid opinions of residents from the very beginning of the policy-making process," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that environmental education becomes a core policy that not only delivers knowledge but also enhances the quality of life for our residents."
