During the Youth Assembly Classroom event, students from Hwadong Elementary School experienced key legislative processes by listening to policy speeches from candidates running for chairperson and directly electing the chairperson through a vote.
Additionally, the students delivered two-minute speeches on the topics of "Let's Practice Waste Separation" and "Not Leaving Food Uneaten in School Meals." They also participated in the introduction and review of two proposed ordinances: one concerning the use of mobile phones on campus and another regarding delaying school start times.
In particular, as the students introduced and deliberated on the ordinances, they engaged in debates for and against the proposals, expressing a variety of opinions and gaining valuable firsthand experience of how policies for the residents of the province are developed.
Yoon Heeshin, a member of the Provincial Council (Taean 1, People Power Party), who attended the Youth Assembly Classroom, remarked, "Through today's Assembly Classroom, I believe the students have gained an opportunity to understand and learn about the principles of local autonomy and the role of local councils, which are the foundation of grassroots democracy." He also encouraged the students, saying, "I hope you will nurture big dreams for the future, cultivate character, and become the leading figures who will guide our local community."
Meanwhile, the Chungnam Provincial Council plans to continue operating the Youth Assembly Classroom for students in the province, aiming to enhance their understanding of democratic citizenship and local autonomy.
