National Gwangju Science Museum Ranks No. 1 in Gwangju Tourist Visits for Two Consecutive Years
The National Gwangju Science Museum has been recorded as the most visited tourist attraction in Gwangju for two consecutive years. According to the Tourism Knowledge Information System of the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the museum attracted 942,722 visitors over the past year.
This figure represents a 13% increase compared to the 836,249 visitors in 2023, making it the most visited among the five national science museums in the country. The museum attributed the rise in visitor numbers to several factors: the expansion of hands-on exhibitions, support for small and medium-sized science museums, and the introduction of programs for adults, all of which were implemented after Director Lee Junggu took office.
In addition to the renewal of the permanent exhibition hall, the special exhibition '2024 Dino World,' and events such as the Gwangju Mathematics and Science Festival, adult-oriented programs like the 'Science Night Festival 19+' have also been utilized to attract new visitor groups.
Director Lee stated, "The museum is establishing itself as a space visited by people of all ages," adding, "We will continue to focus on our role in promoting the popularization of science."
