Goyang City Conducts On-Site Inspections of Food Waste Volume Meters in the First Half of the Year
Inspection of 210 Volume Meters at 19 Complexes
Creating a Pleasant Food Waste Disposal Environment
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on July 2 that it conducted on-site inspections of RFID-based food waste volume meters from June 26 to July 1.
The purpose of this inspection was to check the external cleanliness of the volume meters, the accuracy of waste volume measurement, and the proper functioning of the card payment system.
In 2024, the city installed RFID-based food waste volume meters at 19 apartment complexes, with a total of 210 units. The inspection covered these complexes, verifying the proper operation of the meters and conducting interviews with on-site managers and residents.
The results showed that the meters installed last year are new devices. Their appearance was found to be excellent, and they have been well maintained thanks to the ongoing efforts of managers and residents.
In particular, the complexes inspected this time were the first to introduce RFID-based volume meters, and user interest and participation were high.
An official from Goyang Special City stated, "We plan to conduct additional inspections in the second half of the year to reconfirm the operation of the volume meters. Through continuous management and by gathering citizen feedback, we will work to establish a more pleasant and efficient food waste disposal system."

The RFID-based volume meters operate on a prepaid system, with charges imposed immediately when food waste is disposed of. This system encourages residents to voluntarily reduce waste, is expected to improve user satisfaction, and will help create a better food waste disposal environment.
