Gyeonggi Province Designates 323 Small Libraries as "Cooling Shelters"
Gyeonggi Province will designate and operate 323 small libraries within the province as "cooling shelters."
Small libraries are community-based, small-scale libraries that provide books and a variety of cultural activity programs to local residents. There are 1,622 such libraries in the province.
Gyeonggi Province, in cooperation with 27 participating cities and counties, will provide 609 million won to cover air conditioning expenses and the purchase of cooling equipment, so that small libraries can serve not only as reading spaces but also as community-oriented shelters. These small libraries will also offer a variety of reading and cultural programs for residents seeking refuge from the heat.
