President Lee Holds First Phone Call with UAE President... Agrees to Strengthen Cooperation in AI and Defense Industries
On the afternoon of July 1, President Lee Jaemyung held his first phone conversation since taking office with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated in a written briefing, "President Lee expressed his gratitude for President Mohamed's congratulations on his inauguration and said that, with the launch of our new administration, he looks forward to working together to further strengthen the 'special strategic partnership' between Korea and the UAE."
Kang further explained, "The two leaders agreed on the need to expand the bilateral relationship, which is developing comprehensively based on mutual trust, into more strategic and future-oriented areas." She added, "In particular, they agreed to strengthen cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technology, defense and defense industry, and nuclear power."

The two leaders also agreed to meet in person on the occasion of events such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to discuss specific measures to enhance bilateral cooperation.
