View original imageVice Chair Eunji Chae of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Proportional Representation) announced on July 1 that she has completed six months of service as a member of the Special Committee for Strengthening Expertise in Local Assembly Policy Support of the Korea Council of Local Assembly Chairs.
Since her appointment as a committee member in December of last year, Vice Chair Chae has been actively engaged in proposing institutional improvements and policy suggestions to enhance the policy support capabilities of local assemblies. She led the committee's activities with a particular focus on establishing effective operational measures for policy support professionals and laying institutional foundations.
The activities of the special committee officially concluded with the 2nd regular meeting held on June 30. At this meeting, the original draft of the "Proposal to Introduce One Policy Support Officer per Assembly Member" was approved and officially submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This proposal is regarded as a key recommendation for substantially strengthening the policy capabilities of local assemblies and is seen as a meaningful outcome that reflects the collective demands of city and provincial councils nationwide.
Vice Chair Chae stated, "The stable operation of policy support professionals serves as an important foundation for enhancing the policy capabilities of local assemblies and, ultimately, for transforming the lives of citizens. I hope that the activities of this special committee will serve as a meaningful stepping stone for strengthening the expertise and independence of local assemblies."
Meanwhile, Vice Chair Chae continues to be actively involved in legislative activities within the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, working to advance local autonomy and improve residents' welfare. She plans to continue a variety of initiatives to address local issues and further strengthen policy capabilities.
