Former Democratic Party Lawmaker Yoon Kwanseok to Be Released on Parole on June 30 in "Cash Envelope Scandal"
Deemed Eligible at Parole Review Committee on the 23rd
Former lawmaker Yoon Kwanseok, who is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted in the Democratic Party’s “party convention cash envelope scandal,” will be released on parole on June 30.
According to the legal community on June 29, the Ministry of Justice held a parole review committee on June 23 and determined that Yoon was eligible for parole. As a result, Yoon is scheduled to be released on parole on June 30.
This comes approximately one year and ten months after prosecutors indicted Yoon in August 2023 on charges of violating the Political Parties Act. Under current law, those sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment are eligible for parole after serving one-third of their sentence.
