Yangju City Holds 'Yangju Culture and Tourism Foundation Establishment Public-Private Communication Forum'
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Suhyun Kang), held the 'Yangju Culture and Tourism Foundation Establishment Public-Private Communication Forum' at the Gyeonggi Textile Comprehensive Support Center Convention Hall on the 26th, where the city shared the purpose and necessity of establishing the foundation and exchanged a wide range of opinions with citizens in a meaningful discussion.

View original imageThis forum was organized as a platform for communication to promote sustainable development based on Yangju's abundant cultural and tourism resources, to build consensus on the establishment of the Culture and Tourism Foundation, and to discuss the foundation's operational direction.
The event was attended by more than 70 participants, including Mayor Suhyun Kang of Yangju, Yangju City Council Chair Changcheol Yoon, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member Minho Kim, Yangju City Council Member Hyunsu Kim, relevant public officials, representatives from Yangju Urban Corporation, Yangju Cultural Center, Yangju Arts Council, and other cultural, arts, and tourism organizations, as well as citizens, demonstrating high interest in the initiative.
The forum proceeded in the following order: an explanation of the foundation establishment process by Miyeong Hong, Director of Culture and Tourism; a keynote presentation by Shingyu Yeom, Director of the Korea Cultural Policy Institute; a comprehensive panel discussion; and a Q&A session. The discussions covered the roles, necessity, and operational direction of the Culture and Tourism Foundation from various and practical perspectives.
During his keynote presentation, Director Shingyu Yeom emphasized, "Although the establishment of the Yangju Culture and Tourism Foundation may seem somewhat delayed, if we thoroughly analyze the successful cases of other local governments and prepare meticulously, it can become a foundation that reflects the unique characteristics of the region."
The comprehensive panel discussion was moderated by Seongha Kim, Director of the AI Innovation Policy Center at the Gyeonggi Research Institute. The panel included Yangju City Council Member Hyunsu Kim, Professor Ilryeol Yeom of Seojeong University, Yangju Cultural Center President Taeyoung Jeong, Yangju Arts Council President Sunoh Seo, Culture and Tourism Interpretation Society Secretary Gwangsun Son, and Culture Autonomy Committee Member Mihoe Kim.
The panelists, representing diverse fields such as policy, urban culture, historical culture, arts, tourism, and cultural autonomy, offered in-depth opinions on the practical roles and strategic operational directions of the Culture and Tourism Foundation.
In particular, the forum became a venue for actionable discussions by sharing realistic alternatives, such as collaborative models for mutual growth between the private sector, administration, and the local arts community, as well as measures for implementing sustainable culture and tourism policies.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Suhyun Kang stated, "Yangju is a city endowed with unique history, nature, and cultural assets, such as Hoeamsa Temple Site and Jangheung Tourist Site. I hope today's event will serve as a starting point for jointly exploring the foundation's direction and reflecting the voices of citizens and those in the field."

Meanwhile, the city plans to complete all necessary procedures for establishing the Culture and Tourism Foundation within this year and to continue systematic preparations with the goal of officially launching the foundation in 2026.
