Gwangmyeong Siheung Public Knowledge Industry Center to Move Forward with 196.5 Billion Won Investment
The "Public Knowledge Industry Center," which will be responsible for supporting business growth and startups in the Gwangmyeong Siheung Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province, is set to move forward in earnest.
On June 27, Gyeonggi Province announced that the "Proposal for the Promotion of a New Public Knowledge Industry Center Project in the Gwangmyeong Siheung Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex" had been approved at the 384th regular session of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council. This project will be led by Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH).
The Gwangmyeong Siheung Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex was designated to alleviate overcrowding in the southwestern region of the Seoul metropolitan area and to promote balanced development. It is a key project site aimed at strengthening industrial and self-sustaining functions, moving away from development focused mainly on residential areas. In connection with the nearby "Gwangmyeong Hakeon Public Housing District," which is currently under development, the plan is to establish a future-oriented urban model where residential, industrial, and employment functions are organically integrated.
The Knowledge Industry Center will be built with a total project cost of 196.5 billion won and will have a total floor area of 90,000 square meters, housing industrial and research facilities as well as business support facilities.
In particular, the center will be developed as a space where small and medium-sized enterprises focused on manufacturing and research and development can move in. It will also provide affordable rental fees and public support spaces for early-stage companies and technology-based startups. GH will recruit tenant companies after the design is finalized.
Gyeonggi Province expects that the establishment of this Knowledge Industry Center will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the industrial ecosystem within the Gwangmyeong Siheung Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex.
In addition, in response to the demand for business relocation arising from the promotion of the Gwangmyeong Siheung New Town and Technovalley projects, the province plans to actively supply affordable rental spaces to induce the resettlement of small and micro enterprises, minimize business burdens, and support stable settlement.
