Paju City Begins Basic and Detailed Design for Gongneung Kids Camping Land
Creating a Stay-Type Tourist Destination Covering Northern Gyeonggi Province
Paju City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on June 27 that it had held a kick-off meeting on June 24 for the 'Gongneung Kids Camping Land Development Project Basic and Detailed Design Service,' officially beginning preparations for the project.
The Gongneung Kids Camping Land Development Project aims to create 20 camping sites and a children's themed experience facility at the Gongneung Tourist Site in Jori-eup. The project is being promoted to establish Paju City as a stay-type tourist destination and to expand family-oriented leisure spaces.
During the kick-off meeting, presentations were made on the project's background, necessity, and design schedule direction. KG Engineering Architects & Associates, the service provider, announced plans to utilize existing tourism resources at the Gongneung Tourist Site and reorganize them into an integrated tourism and leisure infrastructure encompassing nature, play, culture, and accommodation. The plan aims to leverage the site's locational advantages to develop it as a family-oriented tourism hub.
Currently, Paju City attracts 10 million tourists, but most visits are simple stopovers. In response, the city plans to develop an experiential tourist destination where visitors can stay, with the goal of establishing a leading stay-type tourist destination in northern Gyeonggi Province.
The city plans to complete the basic and detailed design service by December 2025 and aims to finish construction by December 2026.
Vice Mayor Choi Byunggab stated, "The development of Gongneung Kids Camping Land will be a significant turning point in Paju City's transformation into a stay-type tourist destination. We will do our utmost to ensure that Gongneung Kids Camping Land becomes a landmark representing Paju City by fully reflecting visitors' needs from the design stage."

The total project cost for Gongneung Kids Camping Land is 4.6 billion won. In August last year, the city secured 500 million won in design funds when the project was selected as a new special situation regional development project for 2025 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
