Operation Begins in Paju City on July 1
Full-Scale Launch of "AI Paju for All Citizens"
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province has initiated an organizational restructuring to establish itself as a leading city in artificial intelligence (AI), aligning with the new government's top national agenda of "joining the ranks of the world's top three AI powers and fostering future strategic industries."
On June 27, Paju City announced that, effective July 1, it will establish an "AI-Based Team" under its Information and Communications Division. This team will be responsible for all AI-related policies, including the development of laws and systems related to AI, support for the growth of related industries, and the provision of education and services for citizens.
Paju City's ultimate goal in establishing the AI-Based Team is to position itself as a "core AI city in the Seoul metropolitan area," thereby securing strong momentum toward becoming a self-sustaining city with a population of one million.
Specifically, Paju City plans to build an industrial base that leads the development of AI technology, which is attracting attention as a new growth industry for the future. By doing so, the city aims to significantly increase the number of quality jobs and secure a solid driving force for sustainable urban development.
Under the slogan "AI for All Citizens," Paju City has set a practical goal of creating an environment where everyone can easily and conveniently use AI, and of realizing an AI-based society.
The main responsibilities of the AI-Based Team include: establishing AI-related laws and systems; setting up AI governance; building AI-based infrastructure in Paju City; promoting future-oriented AI education for citizens; and supporting the creation of an AI ecosystem and the growth of related industries.
To achieve these objectives, the dedicated team will consist of four members: one team leader; one person in charge of developing AI systems, establishing basic plans, and supporting industry growth; one person responsible for public data management and disclosure; and one person in charge of data-driven administration and shared data management.
Through the establishment of the AI-Based Team, Paju City plans to achieve greater administrative efficiency using AI technologies and provide a variety of AI services that citizens can directly experience in their daily lives. In addition, the city expects the creation of a new AI industry ecosystem will generate new jobs in the region.
