On June 27 at 2:00 p.m., the city of Ulsan will hold the "19th Ulsan Shipbuilding and Offshore Day Commemoration Ceremony" at the Tanibay Hotel in Dong-gu.
"Ulsan Shipbuilding and Offshore Day" was established in 2006 to commemorate June 28, 1974, when the first phase of the Hyundai Shipyard was completed and two large vessels were named.
Since then, annual commemorative events have been held to honor the history and achievements of Ulsan's shipbuilding and offshore industry and to instill pride among industry workers.
This year's event will be attended by approximately 150 people, including Mayor Kim Dookyum and representatives from the shipbuilding and offshore industry. The program includes a promotional video highlighting the industry's growth and future, as well as an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributors.
A total of 14 individuals will be honored for their contributions to the development of the shipbuilding and offshore industry, including 4 recipients of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award and 10 recipients of the Ulsan Mayor's Award.
As a side event, a technical seminar will be held under the theme "K-Shipbuilding Leading Autonomous Manufacturing in the Digital Era."
Notably, in the keynote speech delivered by Ahn Gwanghyun, head of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Group, the focus will be on the concept of "autonomous manufacturing" currently being pursued by the government and companies, with discussions on changes in the shipbuilding and offshore industry ecosystem and strategies for sustainable growth.
In addition, Ulsan Technopark, together with HD Hyundai and 16 shipbuilding and offshore companies from the Ulsan region, will host a technology exchange meeting featuring programs such as a technical seminar, technology commercialization strategies, and one-on-one technical consultations.
Based on the outcomes of the exchange meeting, Ulsan plans to support business initiatives such as technological cooperation and joint research and development between local small and medium-sized enterprises and large corporations.
Furthermore, a promotional booth will be set up at the event venue to showcase the visions and major initiatives of local universities and innovation institutions. With activities and strategies from various organizations aimed at enhancing the future competitiveness of Ulsan's shipbuilding and offshore industry?such as digital transformation, eco-friendly technologies, and the establishment of smart shipyards?high interest from attendees is expected.
