Siheung City to Support Special Weddings for Vulnerable Groups
Small-scale Weddings for Multicultural Families, North Korean Defectors, and Couples with Disabilities
Family and Friends Can Attend the Ceremony
Starting this month, the city of Siheung in Gyeonggi Province will support small-scale weddings for economically vulnerable groups.
On June 25, the Siheung city government announced that it has selected a partner organization to implement the "Special Weddings for Vulnerable and At-Risk Families" program and will begin providing support this month.
This initiative is an extension of previous programs such as joint multicultural couple weddings, which were held before the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to provide small but meaningful weddings for couples who have been unable to hold a ceremony due to financial difficulties or other reasons.
The program is open to economically vulnerable groups, multicultural families, North Korean defectors, and couples with disabilities, as well as other households who wish to hold a wedding but face practical challenges.
The weddings will be held in a small-scale format, allowing close family and friends to participate. Couples who reside in Siheung and have not yet held a wedding ceremony can apply directly or be recommended by acquaintances. For more information, inquiries can be made to Hamkkehaja or to the Healthy Family Team at the Women and Childcare Division of Siheung City Hall.
To implement this program, the city recently selected Hamkkehaja Co., a prospective social enterprise, as its partner organization through an open recruitment process. The company was chosen for proposing "a wedding exclusively for one couple" utilizing the natural scenery of Siheung.

Hong Seongrim, head of the Women and Childcare Division of Siheung City, stated, "This support initiative will serve as a starting point for social solidarity, where neighbors identify at-risk families and the local community comes together to help."
