The Environmental Awards were determined through a comprehensive evaluation, combining a first-stage quantitative assessment and a second-stage qualitative review.
In the first-stage evaluation, Paju City achieved outstanding results in areas such as waste reduction, recycling rates, and carbon neutrality policies. In the second-stage evaluation, the city received high marks for fairness and effectiveness through its case of improving the selection system for municipal solid waste collection and transportation service providers.
The city expanded opportunities for company participation and established a fair competitive system by implementing measures such as relaxing eligibility requirements, introducing pre-bid qualification screening, adopting a competitive bidding system, establishing anti-collusion measures, and introducing a negotiated contract method. As a result, the city expects to save approximately 7 billion won in budget over two years.
Park Juntae, Director of Environmental Affairs for Paju City, stated, "This award is the result of our efforts to enhance fairness and accountability in administration, particularly in the field of municipal solid waste management, which is closely related to citizens' daily lives." He added, "We will continue to realize a sustainable green city in Paju through efficient and transparent environmental policies."
