The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on June 24 that it had apprehended eight individuals, including a 17-year-old identified as A, on charges of special assault, extortion, and violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
From October 2022 to April this year, these individuals allegedly referred to the victim, a 17-year-old identified as B, as "slave," "bread shuttle," and "ATM," and repeatedly extorted money and valuables from him. They are accused of having taken a total of 6 million won over the course of 165 incidents.
It was also revealed that, at a local pension and other locations, they tied the victim's wrists and body with blue tape, threatened or assaulted him with a weapon, cut his hair, and made illegal recordings of him.
The police conducted searches of the suspects' residences and other locations, securing crime-related videos, photos, and items used in the offenses as evidence. Through witness interviews and other investigative measures, they were able to specify the times, locations, and frequency of the crimes.
The police applied for arrest warrants for the suspects, but the court denied the requests.
A police official stated, "We are continuing the investigation to determine whether there were additional offenses or other accomplices."
After concluding the investigation, the police plan to refer the eight suspects to the prosecution around this weekend.
