On June 24, during a five-minute speech at the fourth plenary session of the regular council meeting, Jeong stated, "Padoli is the 'Land’s End Village of the West Sea,' where the sun sets latest along the West Coast. It was declared the 'Land’s End Village of the West Sea' in 2013 and has even been registered as a trademark with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, making it a symbolic location." He argued, "Now is the time to foster 'Padoli' as a landmark brand of the West Sea, just as Jeongdongjin marks the beginning of the East Sea and Haenam represents the end of the South Sea."
He continued, "Padoli boasts pristine coastlines, pine forests, sea caves, and tidal flat ecosystems, preserving its natural beauty. The scenery, where sunsets and starlight blend together, holds great potential as an 'emotional travel destination' sought after by the younger generation. Therefore, it should be developed as one of Chungnam's premier marine tourism attractions."
Jeong then proposed three measures to establish Padoli as the center of tourism on Korea's West Coast: branding Padoli as the 'Land’s End Village of the West Sea'; installing guideposts labeled 'Land’s End Village of the West Sea, Padoli' at key highway points nationwide to promote it across the country; and creating low-carbon, eco-friendly tourism infrastructure such as sunset observatories, seaside walking trails, and zones for camping and car camping.
Jeong emphasized, "Padoli is not simply a remote place, but a new starting point for West Sea tourism," and insisted, "We must create a future tourism model for the West Coast of Chungnam through the symbolic message, 'At the land’s end where the sun sets, see tomorrow.'"
He added, "I hope that sustainable tourism, where nature and people, villages and the future coexist, will begin in Chungnam," and urged the Chungnam provincial government to show interest and carefully consider these proposals.
