Solving Everyday Urban Issues Through Citizen Participation
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) announced on June 24 that it will hold the 'Seongnam Smart City Idea Contest' to respond to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and to discover citizen-centered smart city services.

View original imageThis contest seeks creative ideas that can solve various urban issues encountered in daily life?such as those related to transportation, environment, safety, welfare, education, and culture?by utilizing advanced information and communication technologies (ICT), including AI. Anyone nationwide, including Seongnam citizens, is eligible to participate.
The application period is from July 28 until 6:00 p.m. on July 31. Applications must be submitted via email. Participants may apply individually or as a team of up to three people. The application and proposal forms can be downloaded from the Seongnam City website (City News → Notices → General Notices → 'Seongnam Smart City Idea Contest'), filled out, and then submitted.
Entries will be judged primarily on creativity and feasibility. One team will be awarded the Grand Prize (KRW 2 million), two teams will receive Excellence Prizes (KRW 1 million each), and two teams will receive Encouragement Prizes (KRW 500,000 each). The results will be announced on the Seongnam City website on August 22.

A Seongnam City official stated, "The ideas collected through this contest will be actively reviewed as practical solutions to urban problems and will also be incorporated into Seongnam City's 2030 smart city plan. By enabling citizens to directly participate in solving urban issues, we expect to increase policy trust, as well as promote community engagement and publicity effects."
