Yangsan City to Launch One-Stop Support Service Project for Suicide Survivors
A Warm Journey Together to Overcome the Loss of Loved Ones
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will launch a one-stop support service project for suicide survivors starting in July 2025.
This project has been established to help suicide survivors overcome psychological and emotional difficulties and return to their daily lives in a healthy way.
In 2023, the number of suicide deaths in Yangsan City was 112. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the extreme choice of one person affects 5 to 10 people around them. Research also shows that suicide survivors experience higher levels of anger, loneliness, and depression compared to other bereaved families, and their risk of making an extreme choice is about 8 to 9 times higher than that of the general population.
Accordingly, the city plans to provide psychological counseling and case management from the early stages through the "One-Stop Support Service for Suicide Survivors" project. The city will also identify and connect necessary resources and operate self-help groups to foster empathy among survivors, enabling them to regain psychological and emotional stability as quickly as possible.
The main areas of support include: emergency psychological counseling; connection to mental health medical services; linkage to resources at regional centers (such as legal assistance, scholarships, special cleaning costs, and temporary housing support); and community reintegration programs.
An official from the public health center stated, "We will do our best to provide one-stop support services for the psychological healing and daily recovery of families who have lost loved ones," adding, "We will continue to be a warm and reliable companion, reminding everyone of the preciousness of life."
